KANGAROO POINT

COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION in brisbane

About this construction project

SNAP SHOT

With the project designed by MAARCH Architects, the site is situated on one of the main arteries leading into the Brisbane city centre. The advertising LED screen is surrounded by Brisbane tough rock and an architecturally designed feature structural steel. The client engaged Gwyth Jones to project manage and lead the construction on this project through to completion. By selecting each contractor carefully for the relevant stages of the construction, Gwyth Jones was able to bring the project to completion within the required budget and timeline.

FEATURES

The design incorporated Brisbane tough rock. This was used in the steel frame at the base with part of the excavated Brisbane tough rock being re-used in the wall. The LED screen is 9 m wide by 3 m tall. Overall, the structure is 6 m high.

CHALLENGES OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

The main challenge was the site location, Kangaroo Point – one of the busiest intersections in Brisbane. To add further difficulties, there was an active construction site of high-rise apartments being built next door to this construction project, which meant all logistics between each site needed to be coordinated.

As the ground was made of Brisbane tough rock and the structures of the signage and perimeter were to sit on piles, the piling rig had to core out the rock to enable the piles cages drop into sockets 3m deep.
