COMO BILLBOARD AND STRUCTURE

COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION in PERTH

About this construction project

SNAP SHOT

Commenced – January 2022
Completed – June 2022

The initial design was designed by Maarch Architects. Once development approval was granted, Gwyth Jones was contracted to bring this project to life, including being the lead to engage the consultants required to gain building licence approval and work further into construction documentation.

FEATURES

The proposed structure consisted of approximately 20 tonnes of structural steel above and below the roofline; with the façade consisting of 220 louvers – each one having its own shape which in elevation created a 3 dimensional wave effect. The top and bottom of the structure were completed with a clean aluminium finish. The supply and installation of the structural steel and façade were successfully done by Kilmore Group.

The LED screens consisted of 121 individual, curved LED frames, which were installed and connected on site. These were successfully completed by Gwyth Jones, Australian Integrated Steel and Gunn Electrics.

CHALLENGES OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

The logistics and health and safety of the project were extremely challenging due to the following factors:

  • The existing building is situated on Canning Highway – one of Perth’s major highways.
  • The existing building is a car dealership with in excess of 80+ cars in the car yard, with the low ground floor area of the building being a mechanics. Both tenants of the building had to stay in full operation during the construction of the project.

To gain precise accuracy of the existing building without disturbing existing operations, we engaged Vision Surveys to undertake a 3D scan of the existing building and create a model which we could work with during the construction documentation process.

By obtaining the 3D scan, we were able to create a 3 dimensional structure above the existing building whilst incorporating the proposed structure into the existing structure of the building. This gave us precise accuracy on site, allowing us to successfully construct the project with millimetre-perfection.
